GUINDA, CA - Full Belly Farm is a farm in the Capay Valley that arguably has the best CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) box in the bay area. I was a member for years before I moved to Berkeley and had them easily accessible at the Tuesday farmer's market. The farm has everything from chickens, to goats, to orchards to asparagus and beyond, and is regularly open to visitors.
They have a several different opportunities for people to visit the farm, wander around, and get a little closer to where there food comes from. The first and is their quarterly Open Farm Days and Farm Tours. These are a free, low key, and low traffic way to visit the farm, meet the farmers and hopefully partake in some delicious, fresh food.
On a monthly basis (except during the winter) the farm hosts farm dinners where you have an opportunity to tour the farm, pick some food for dinner and have a multi-course dinner with the farmers and a small group. It's the epitome of farm to table, though not the cheapest way to visit the farm (last I went I believe it was $60 a plate).
And the last but certainly not least, the most fun way to see the farm is the Hoes Down Festival, which usually occurs the first Saturday in October. This is the big harvest festival at the farm, lot's of agricultural themed talks, farm tours, local beer, dancing, music, and of course lot's of local fresh food!
You can find out more about opportunities to visit Full Belly Farm by visiting's their calendar. Full Belly Farm is about about an 1 hour 45 minute drive north of the Bay Bridge.
